Welcome Letter

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Welcome to the Town of Guilford, CT! Our community is located on the CT
Shoreline, in the middle of the State between Greenwich and Stonington. This Long
Island Sound shoreline town is a combination residential and summer community.
Five miles in width and 12 miles in length, the town contains 47.6 square miles and a
population of 22,000. Flanked on the west by Branford and on the east by Madison,
these shoreline towns are suburbs to urban New Haven.

Guilford is one of Connecticut’s jewels. We are a waterfront community with easy
access to Interstates 95 and 91, only 30 miles from the State capital of Hartford and
close to our major cities of New Haven, Bridgeport and Stamford. This area is well
served by major highways and rail connections.

Incorporated as a village in 1639, Guilford is a close-knit community with all of the
cultural amenities of our neighboring towns. Guilford has a small-town, historic,
charming atmosphere which is highlighted by its rustic character and individuality.
Our beautiful town sits on the waterfront and extends North to include expansive
land and offers a public park, two beaches, a historic downtown shopping district
that includes the “famous” Guilford Green, restaurants, art galleries, nature trails and
boating. We are a growing community offering a Class-A school district and various
places of worship. Guilford truly has something for everyone.

Come and explore the unique and charming personality of historic Guilford as it
continues to grow as a regional homesteading, recreational and business destination
for those in the surrounding communities and throughout the State. Whether you
are new to the area or just visiting, please come and discover what thousands of
others already know. Our Agricultural Fair, Art Expo, 4 th of July Fireworks
extravaganza, Annual Tree Lighting, and various holiday parades are just some of the
activities that make Guilford the place to be!
